Giant boulders of red granite more than 1.4 billion years old, standing end to end like a train of circus elephants. The one-mile Braille Trail, the first in Missouri’s state parks designed for visitors with visual and physical disabilities, loops through the main rock area, and a side path leads to the ruins of an old railroad engine house. The area’s granite has been quarried since 1869, and stone from local quarries went into St. Louis City Hall and the piers of the Eads Bridge. Geologist John Stafford Brown donated the land, and the park opened in 1967.
